The Bacchae, 1997 – Production Credits

Since its ten-week Los Angeles run at the Complex in the summer of 1997, Lorenda Starfelt’s acclaimed production of Euripides’ The Bacchae, under the direction of Brad Mays, has been the subject of much discussion and general interest. Over the years, Mays’ official website http://www.bradmays.com has been deluged with requests for VHS and DVD videos. Then, in the fall of 2009, Mays was approached by television producer Annie Wong to appear in a thirteen part series to be aired by PBS, Invitation To World Literature, to discuss Euripides’ The Bacchae, along with actor Alan Cumming, Nobel Award-Winning playwright Wole Soyinka, and theatre scholar and stage director Richard Schechner. It stands to reason that interest in the Lorenda Starfelt / Brad Mays production is only going to increase with the 2010 airing of the series, and for that reason we have created this website so that a full, uncensored video presentation can at last be seen.

Nominated for three LA Weekly Theatre Awards: Direction, Original Musical Score, and Production Design.
